The reproductive system of males and females are very important because it is known to be one of the most crucial systems in one’s body. The purpose of the reproductive system is so that both male and female can work together to reproduce. This system consists of internal and external organs. However, the male and female reproductive systems differ and control different responsibilities in each of their bodies. In addition, there are many forms of STIs, STDs and cancer that can affect a male and females fertility and create long term effects in the reproductive system.
The male reproductive system embodies two major parts which include their testes and their penis. The testes are found in a male’s scrotum which is where the sperm is produced. The penis is incorporated in the urinary and reproductive system. Diseases in the male reproductive system such as prostate, testicular, and penile cancer will negatively affect a male’s reproductive system. Infertility in men can be caused by their lifestyle and their health. Therefore, consumption of alcohol and drug use, hormonal imbalance, tumors, or cystic fibrosis, etc, can result in infertility. Infertility in males is a result of azoospermia which means no sperm is able to be produced. Another condition is called oligospermia which means they are not able to produce enough sperm cells.
On the other hand, the female’s external and internal parts of the reproductive system is the function in their body to create new offspring. The external sex organ consists of the clitoris, labia minora, labia majora and bartholin’s glands. The internal sex organs of a female’s reproductive system consists of the vagina and uterus. When an egg is not fertilized in a woman’s body it then sheds which causes a woman’s menstrual period. The types of diseases women can suffer that can affect their fertility and reproductive system are STD’S, ovarian cancer and cancer of the fallopian tube. It is important for women to visit their gynecologist/ obstetrician and get regular pap smears and STD testing. STDs such as gonorrhea and chlamydia can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease causing an infection in a woman’s reproductive system.
Overall, the reproductive system is one of the most crucial parts of a human’s body for creating new offspring. There are many diseases that can occur in one’s body that can affect the reproductive system long term and cause infertility in men and women. However, men and women have different functions in which their bodies play different roles. A male and female both play important roles because sperm is needed from the male to reach a woman’s fallopian tube in order to procreate.
