As a medical interpreter we need to learn and apply medical terminology in our role. Medical terminology isn’t something that one can easily memorize. It will take lots of practicing, experience and studying. Using prefixes, root and suffixes is useful to help break down a word and interpret the meaning correctly. It is crucial to understand when breaking down a word, putting the meaning in the same order of the word can change the meaning. Therefore, the order of which the word is interpreted and broken down determines if it will make sense. Using the analysis from end to beginning will give the best results of the correct meaning of the word. Therefore, the order should be presented as a suffix. prefix then root. If the order of the word is applied inaccurately, it can change the meaning of the word and there will be no good use to the word. Knowing the prefix and suffix of a word is important because understanding meanings of part of the word will help create a full accurate meaning. |
