The difference between an artery and a vein, is that arteries carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart through the body. While veins carry oxygen-poor blood back to the heart. They are both a part of the circulatory system, a vast network of organs and vessels that are responsible for the flow of the blood, nutrients, hormones, oxygen and other gasses to and from cells. The heart has four chambers, two upper and two lower and two upper chambers. According to the Mayo clinic the upper chambers, which are the right and left atria that receive incoming blood. The lower chambers, which are the more muscular right and left ventricles pump blood out of the heart. The heart valves are what keep the blood flowing in the right direction, they are gates at the chamber openings. These chambers are important to the heart because it pumps blood throughout your body, controls your heart rate and maintains blood pressure. All are which very important in helping us keep our bodies healthy and alive, which is important that we keep those parts of the body healthy to reduce disease and even death. Because when we do not take care of ourselves by having poor diet or lack of exercise, all of these can lead to cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States. Some of these diseases are arteriosclerosis, hypertension and many more. There are many different types of disease that can affect our heart to function properly.
